What Japan Wander Bites receives when you visit, what we do with it, and the choices you have.

Who this policy covers
Japan Wander Bites ("we", "this site") runs japan-wander-bites.com in six languages. This policy applies to every page and every language edition of that site. It does not cover the external sites we link to, or the social platforms where we also publish — those services are governed by their own policies.
Information we collect
This site has no accounts, no login, no newsletter, and no comment section. In practice that leaves only two kinds of information:
- Information collected automatically as you browse — pages viewed, approximate location at country or city level, referring site, device type, browser, and language settings. It comes from Google Analytics 4, is handled in aggregate, and is not used to identify individuals.
- Information you choose to send us — if you email us or message us on social media, we receive what you wrote along with your email address or account handle. We use it only to reply.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which articles are read and which languages our readers use. Google processes that data on our behalf and may transfer it outside your country. Google Analytics 4 anonymises IP addresses by design. Measurement is disabled on preview builds of this site.
Affiliate links and third-party services
Some articles contain affiliate links to booking sites and retailers. When you follow one, the destination site may set its own cookie to record that the visit came from us. We never receive your payment details. Articles containing affiliate links say so, and the full explanation is on our affiliate disclosure page.
How we use information
We use it to decide which places to visit and write about next, to fix pages that read badly on a phone, to judge whether a language edition is worth continuing, and to reply when you contact us. We do not sell personal information and we do not build advertising profiles of individual readers.
Your choices and rights
You can switch off analytics with the add-on above or by blocking cookies. If you are in the EU, the UK, or anywhere with comparable rules, you may ask what information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its processing. Because we run no accounts, in most cases the only data tied to you is an email you sent us. Write to the address below and we will respond.
Children
This site is written for adults planning travel and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we add an advertising network, a new analytics tool, or another affiliate programme, we update this page and change the date shown at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
